Working With Disturbance

Bruce Tift keenly observed that relationship is fundamentally “disturbing”. In other words, if we’re going to be in relationship, if we’re going to be in community, if we’re going to open our hearts to one another, we will inevitably feel disturbed from time to time. 

 The question then becomes, how do we work with disturbance in a way that is healing and freeing to us all? In a time where many of us feel abnormally disturbed by pandemic and institutional inequalities, how can we remain open-hearted and committed, in the great words of Ram Dass, to walk one another home?
