The New Monastery: Your Life
As the modern world reaches a fever pitch of activity, many of us feel our hearts longing for greater simplicity and stillness. It’s not unusual these days to hear people express a longing to quit their meaningless job and “head to a monastery.”
And yet, something in us isn’t ready to hang it all up and don the monk’s robes, either. After all, in a world of climate change, water shortages and racial injustice, how can we go sit in a cell while the world burns?
We feel called to serve, but often overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of the challenges we face. What if instead of heading to the monastery, we monasticize our lives instead? What would it look like to hold deep stillness and passionate engagement in the world as a pair of inseparable opposites?
Come explore this theme with us on November 13th at Lower Lights. Monasticize your life!
