TAKING CARE OF THE BODIES
We live in a time where arguably people are more health conscious than ever: nutrition, exercise and sleep are all part of taking care of the body to be optimally healthy. But our modern worldview disadvantages us in at least one way: we tend to believe we only have one body, made up of cells, tissues and organs. The Vedic religions (e.g. Hinduism and Buddhism) are very explicit about the many bodies we have and need to take care of in human life. But what are these bodies, and how do we take care of them? Explore with Lower Lights on bringing attention, caring awareness, and a spirit of play to this vast field of energy and bliss.
The Bardo: Melting Anxiety into Freedom
Learn how to work with the inevitable anxiety that comes up in human life, as well as on the path of awakening. Surprisingly, we find over time that there are no conditions of life that can upset our fundamental freedom.
Heal Thyself: Practicing Unconditional Kindness
Explore a practice that involves working with our disturbances in a non-reactive and non-harmful way, both for ourselves and others. In the end, we discover that at the heart of our being is an unconditional kindness available to heal all the suffering of the world.
ALTAR YOUR STATE
Explore how the Wisdom traditions take a very different view on the matter. From a Wisdom perspective, what we often call an “ordinary state” is regarded as only a narrow sliver of reality along the full spectrum of Consciousness; of Spirit.
Celebrate love with Lower Lights. Rather than exclusively focusing on romantic love, in this recording we will work with basic meditative practices to help soften the body, open the mind and expand the heart to bodhicitta, caritas, or universal compassion.
Why be only the Lover when you can become Love itself?
The path of karma yoga, or “work” yoga acknowledges the inevitability of action in human life. It points to a way of liberation through action, rather than increasing bondage to our more primitive appetites. Listen to a soulful evening where we will investigate how each action we take in life can be an offering to our highest vision–an expression of our deepest meditation and prayer.
HEART CENTERED ECONOMY
We continue our inquiry around Soul Work. As a community, we will enter into visionary mode and imagine what a Heart-centered economy actually looks and feels like. This mode of commerce isn’t about winners and losers–it’s about giving and receiving as one and the same act.
SWORD OF DISCERNMENT
So often when we set out to do something in the world, we slavishly chase after an image of success rather than sourcing from a true Power within. But when we are aligned and in integrity, nothing, not even Death can stop our expression.
A continuation on the series on Soul Work at Lower Lights. We explore the classical theme of the Threshold Guardian.
At this Lower Lights gathering, we explore one of our central concerns: to help people source their life’s work from a deeper, more soulful place.
LOVING YOUR MESS
At this Lower Lights gathering, we explore how touching into our underlying perfection can actually relieve the intense pressure we often feel to improve ourselves. Ultimately we find that when we can really love our mess, we’re a lot less messy in the world.
MEDITATION & MELON BUST
We’re in the full swing of summer right now, friends. The days can be blistering, but the nights often blissful. We meet for an extended meditation in community, followed by some small group work to open the heart and get the juices flowing.
MONEY, SEX, FAME, POWER: GETTING TO THE ROOTS OF ADDICTION
We don’t so much seek because we’re lacking–we feel as though we’re lacking and so we endlessly seek. There is a way out of this addiction cycle. There is a way to rest, to be content, to know true peace.
Conflict: Transmuting the Three Poisons
What do the Wisdom traditions have to teach us about the timeless art of skillful conflict? Join Lower Lights this month where we will explore different styles of conflict and the gifts they can bring to human life.
